Monash Course Proposals

This section provides documents to assist course proposers in establishing and amending undergraduate and graduate/postgraduate course proposals, and outlines the university course approval process.

These requirements apply to proposals for all new courses and to amendments to courses that fall with the six categories of strategic significance.

Course approval process

The following policy and procedures provide information on the course approval and course costing model process for all Monash campuses:

  • Establishing, Disestablishing and Amending Coursework Courses and Units Policy
  • Establishing, Disestablishing and Amending Coursework Courses Procedures
  • Establishing Cross Disciplinary Units Procedures

Special note: All course proposals require a business case. Course proposals from Australian campuses are required to use a course costing model. Monash Sunway and Monash South Africa must include confirmation that the respective campus Executive/Advisory group has approved a properly completed financial evaluation based on local criteria. Further procedural notes relating to financial management policy for international entities can be found at: http://www.firm.monash.edu.au/finance/policies/policies-global/ and the education policy and procedure links above.

Course Approval Flowcharts:

The course approval flowcharts visually depict the course approval process which applies to all new courses, or amendments to courses falling within the six defined categories of university-level strategic significance.

The course approval flowcharts are divided between Faculty-initiated course proposals, and Pro Vice-Chancellor campus-initiated proposals:
